Review: MARRIAGE Workshop on marina infrastructure development & network densification


On 6 Nov 2014, around 25 representatives of local authorities, marina developers and marina operators joined the MARRIAGE workshop “New impulses for marina infrastructure development & network densification” in Szczecin / PL on 6 Nov 2014. The event explored possibilities for developing and extending the marina infrastructure along the South Coast Baltic in times of decreasing EU funding.

In this context, two questions received closer examination: How to acquire private skills and capital for the development of new marina infrastructure? And how to densify the marina network at low costs and under (re-)use of existing facilities?

  • Increasing berth capacities through complementary small boater stops – the approach for the Szczecin waters (Anna Kajrys, Szczecin Municipal Government / PL; Piotr Owczarski, BTW / PL)
  • Opening small fishery ports for leisure boats – experiences from Estonia (Jaano Martin Ots, Estonian Small Harbours Development Centre / EE)
