Vorpommern:

In the north-east of Germany there you find the region of Vorpommern. Land by the sea - that is the correct translation of the original Slavic word "Vorpommern". There is no place in Germany where you find more coastline and beaches like in Vorpommern. The Baltic islands of Rügen and Usedom with their beautiful seaside resorts are the most popular holiday destinations of Vorpommern. Also numerous marinas along the coast provide a maritime atmosphere.

The Hanseatic cities of Stralsund and Greifswald form with a total of 112 000 inhabitants the center of the region. Stralsund is an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. Other smaller cities which are noteworthy are Anklam, Wolgast and Ueckermünde.

Tourism Association Rügen

Tourism Association Rügen

Tourism Association Rügen (TVR) defines the guidelines for tourism development on the Baltic island of Rügen, which is a popular boating area. Its members are local / regional authorities and tourist businesses. Tasks include networking, support for tourism businesses and marketing. Water tourism and attracting guests from abroad (current share: only 3%) get increasingly into the spotlight of TVR. Within MARRIAGE, TVR intensifies these efforts and draws its attention to boaters from the east Europe, especially Poland. It creates related print / online media (brochure in Polish, multilingual boating extension of “Rügen app”), organizes fam trips for journalists from Poland and Lithuania and takes part in boating fairs in these countries for the first time. Bringing in its extensive experience, TVR is task leader for organizing the common MARRIAGE fair stands in Germany. Furthermore, it is the interface to the complementary South Baltic Programme project “Four Corners”, in which it is also involved but focuses on Scandinavian guests.

Municipality Ostseebad Heringsdorf

Municipality Ostseebad Heringsdorf

Heringsdorf is a major seaside resort. The municipality is planning an “island marina” on the outer shore of Usedom island. Besides the participation in common promotion activities for the southern Baltic rim as cross-border boating area, Heringsdorf`s main aim in MARRIAGE is to advance the development of an outer shore marina, based on lessons from international exchange on developing outer shore marinas, operating models and PPP in Component 5. Especially the marina at Sopot pier appears as inspiring example in this context. The municipality conducts further investigations / conceptual work for realizing the marina, with a special focus on alternative financing / operating models. Results and lessons from the continued process are taken up into the MARRIAGE guidelines on this topic. This makes the development of the outer shore marina in Heringsdorf a case study and model for closing gaps of the marina network in the southern Baltic rim.
